Remove the background from an image

Cut out the background of a photo right in your browser – no upload, no AI. Auto mode handles plain and studio backgrounds; for harder photos, draw a box around the subject and fix the edges with a brush.

How it works

  1. Drop in a JPEG, PNG, WebP or other image.
  2. Pick a mode – Auto, Solid color, Chroma key, Magic wand or Rectangle – and fix the mask with the Keep/Erase brush.
  3. Choose a transparent, colored, blurred or image backdrop and download PNG, WebP or JPEG.

Works well for

  • Product photos on a white, gray or studio background
  • Logos, icons, signatures and scanned drawings
  • People and objects that clearly contrast with the background
  • Photos taken in front of a green or blue screen

Limitations

  • Hair and fur against a busy background – the edge comes out coarser than with AI tools
  • Subject and background of a similar color, or a cluttered scene
  • Glass, smoke and other see-through objects, and motion blur
  • Rectangle mode and the brush help with hard photos, but the cut-out will not be pixel-perfect

Frequently asked questions

Does it use AI?

No. The tool uses classic image processing: it samples the background color along the image border, grows the background region inward from there and then smooths the edge. In Rectangle mode it builds color models of the subject and the background and separates them over several iterations (a GrabCut-style method). No neural networks are involved.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The image is decoded and processed in your browser, and you save the result from there. Only Pro users who call the HTTP API send files to our server on purpose, and the API runs the same algorithms.

What if the automatic result is not clean?

Switch to Rectangle mode and draw a box around the subject, or click the background with the Magic wand. Then paint over mistakes with the Keep and Erase brush and use the edge controls to shrink, soften or fill holes. Undo and redo keep every step.

Which files and sizes can I use?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP and GIF (first frame); SVG is not accepted. Without an account images can be up to 10 MB and 12 megapixels, with a free account 20 MB and 16 MP, with Pro 50 MB and 40 MP.

Can I remove backgrounds from many photos at once?

Yes, in the automatic modes: a free account processes 5 images per batch, Pro up to 50 and also gets an HTTP API for automation. Without an account you work on one image at a time.
