Frequently asked questions

How does it find the old background?

It samples the colors along the image border, groups them and grows the background region inward until it reaches the subject. Soft gradients and vignettes are followed, while a sudden jump in color stops the growth.

Can I use it for passport or ID photos?

It can put a person on an even white or light gray background, but it does not crop, measure or check official requirements. Check the rules of the issuing office before you use the result.

Which format should I download?

JPEG is preselected because a colored background needs no transparency and JPEG files are small. Choose PNG for sharp graphics and logos, or WebP for smaller files on the web.

Can I change the background of many photos at once?

Yes, with an account: 5 images per batch on the free plan and up to 50 on Pro. Pro users can also automate it through the HTTP API. The output files carry no metadata.
