How it works

1. Upload a photo shot in front of a green or blue screen.
2. Choose green or blue, then tune tolerance and softness until the backdrop is gone.
3. Place the subject on transparency, a color or another image and download.

Works well for

• Studio photos in front of an evenly lit green or blue screen
• Portrait and product shots from a home chroma key setup
• Still frames exported from green screen footage
• Subjects standing well away from the screen, so little green light falls on them

Limitations

• Wrinkled or unevenly lit screens leave patches – raise the tolerance or erase them with the brush
• Green clothing or plants in the subject get keyed out too – use a blue screen or restore them with the Keep brush
• Fine hair keeps a slight fringe even with spill control
• Photos only – video files are not supported

Frequently asked questions

Should I use a green or a blue screen?

Green is the most common because cameras record it with the least noise. Blue is better when the subject contains green, such as plants or a green shirt. The tool handles both; for a backdrop of any other flat color, use Solid color mode.

What is color spill and does the tool fix it?

Spill is green light reflected from the screen onto the edges of the subject. Chroma key mode detects it and pulls the edge colors back toward neutral, and the optional edge decontamination cleans up what is left. Heavy spill on hair can still show.

Can I replace the green screen with my own background?

Yes. After keying, choose a backdrop: transparent, a solid color, a blurred copy of the original or another image. Save as PNG or WebP to keep transparency, or as JPEG when the backdrop is opaque.

Can I key many photos at once?

Yes. A free account keys 5 photos per batch with the same settings and Pro up to 50. Pro also includes an HTTP API for automated workflows.
