Remove punctuation

Removes all punctuation marks, from periods and commas to quotes, dashes and brackets in any script. Letters, digits, spaces and symbols such as $ or + stay.

How it works

Works well for

  • Preparing word lists, keyword lists and text for analysis
  • Punctuation in any language: « », ¿ ¡, 。、 and others

Limitations

  • Hyphens, @, #, % and & count as punctuation, so hyphenated words, e-mail addresses and hashtags change.
  • Decimal points and thousand separators go too (3.14 becomes 314).
  • Symbols such as $, €, +, =, < and > are not punctuation and stay.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as punctuation?

Every character Unicode classifies as punctuation: . , ; : ! ? quotes, brackets, dashes, hyphens, @, #, %, &, * and their equivalents in other scripts. Currency and math symbols are not included.

Can I keep apostrophes?

Yes. With the option on, apostrophes between two letters stay (don’t, l’homme); all other apostrophes and quotes are removed.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The text is processed in your browser and never sent to a server.

Is there a size limit?

Up to 1 MB of text without an account, 2 MB with a free account and 10 MB with Pro.
